SUUNS

It didn't take long for Montreal's Suuns to resurface with a second full length, Images Du Futur, and, as one would anticipate, this latest exploration takes on even greater visceral depths. At the outset it appears we're still ensconced in the warehouse, whether it's the grinding opening explosives of "Powers of Ten" or the crude, ominous rise-and-fall riffs in "2020." Broken up by Ben Shemie's melodious and angst-ridden murmurs, the industrial low-end throb presides early on, lulling us into thinking the band has picked up right where they left off with their debut LP, Zeroes QC. "Minor Work" builds steadily around a nostalgic, fuzz-infused beat and bares a soothing, contagious harmony. "Mirror Mirror" departs from the frenzied earlier pace, decelerating to a lethargic drawl; the droning, almost tedious undertones are paid off with flurries of synthesized flute that announce the dawn of the dreamscape ahead. We aren't to be disappointed.

Suuns’ Bambi b/w Red Song 12″ out TODAY

The 12″ with two new songs from Suuns is out today on Secretly Canadian. “Bambi” is a creepy story of love lost and found, while “Red Song” is just that: a song about color. You can cop the vinyl from SC Distribution.

You can also check out the band’s remix of the Glasser song “Mirrorage” at FACT Magazine or download here. And don’t miss the band on their European tour that starts this week. They’ll play NYC with the Antlers on December 10th. All dates are listed here.

Suuns Announce New 12″ – Bambi b/w Red Song

Suuns – Bambi b/w Red Song
Following last year’s release of their full length Zeroes QC and a successful round of touring, Suuns will put out a duo of new songs on 12″ this fall. The new tracks, “Bambi” and “Red Song” fit smoothly into the Montreal outfit’s oeuvre of dancefloor-friendly post-punk noir. yvynyl has premiered both tracks.

The band explains, “With a couple weeks off this summer in Montreal, we thought we’d take a crack at a few new songs. Stark and futuristic, these are extended jams that may or may not materialize as condensed versions of themselves on records to come. Open air textures, repetition and exploration were the name of the game for us on this one, and the finished product is a refined mining of the ideas that came out. “Bambi” is a creepy story of love lost and found, while “Red Song” is just that: a song about color.” The disc will be available on Secretly Canadian on November 15.

You can also watch video of the band performing “Red Song” live in Montreal this past weekend here.

Suuns Tour with Handsome Furs. New Live Video

Suuns | FOR NO ONE from FOR NO ONE on Vimeo.

Over the past year Suuns have built a reputation for supremely intense live shows “full of thrash, immediacy, and spastic explosiveness” (Brooklyn Vegan), “with an unhinged intensity uncharacteristic of any band in their genre” (Death + Taxes) or more simply and direct “Drone Scholars” (New York Times) and the “#1 Best New Band of 2011″ (NME). We have brought you videos for “Up Past The Nursery” and “Pie IX” (NSFW) both of which capture the dark and dangerous aesthetic, but neither has properly captured the sheer force of Suuns live show. Now thanks to director Daniel Ryan of FOR NO ONE.tv, we have a new video that puts you onstage with the band as they cast their “Gaze” right into your eye sockets.

Suuns are currently tearing up the Summer Festival Scene in Europe and Canada with recent performances at Primavera Sound, North by Northeast, and 13 more festivals peformances yet to come including appearances at Pukkelpop, Off Festival and Greenman. But never fear America, in September Suuns will be touring with Handsome Furs in the West and will be playing select dates in the rest of the country in this fall along a headlining Canadaian tour and a co-headlining North American tour with PS I Love You. Suuns Drop Fugazi Cover, Plot European Festival Tour

Montreal’s Suuns (say it with me now, “Sooons”) are disciples of Fugazi. There is no bullshit. It’s all adrenaline and mood. Suuns’ intense, blistering live presence, which has won them wide praise at SXSW and CMJ, owes a bit to the Fugazi legacy. Today, Alternative Press posted Suuns’ cover of the Fugazi classic “Long Division” — a rarity of Suuns’ live show.

LISTEN TO SUUNS’ COVER OF “LONG DIVISION”

Suuns are currently on the back-end of a North American tour with The Black Angels (Psych-rock tour of the year anyone?). In May, the band returns to Europe for a hefty tour that includes appearances at several coveted festivals — Spain’s Primavera Sound Festival, UK’s Great Escapes and Denmark’s Kilbi Festival.
