TAKEN BY TREES

Taken by Trees, the brainchild of renaissance woman Victoria Bergsman, has signed to Secretly Canadian. The former front woman of the Concretes (who you may also recognize from the Peter, Bjorn & John hit "Young Folks") has been hard at work on a new album influenced by a trip to Hawaii and falling in love. Bergsman says of the signing, "I am really excited to be working with Secretly Canadian. I admire how thoughtful they are when it comes to who they sign. I imagine that's due to how much dedication and hard work it takes to deliver something truly special." Bergsman's distinctive voice has served her well, with two critically acclaimed albums under her belt (2007's Open Field and 2009's East of Eden) as well as collaborations with the aforementioned Peter, Bjorn & John, and indie pop bedroom dreamers, Korallreven and Dan Lissvik of nu-Baleric dance kings Studio. For the Swedish chanteuse, each album has been a boundary-testing exploration - Open Field was recorded in just six days and East of Eden grew out of a trip to Pakistan. Victoria's creativity and sense of wonder makes Taken by Trees a singular project that is served well by her playful pop sensibilities. Taken by Trees will perform in Los Angeles for the first time in almost 2 years on Sunday, March 11. The show will serve as a warm-up gig, trying out brand new songs from the forthcoming album before heading to Austin for SXSW. This will be Taken by Trees' first performance at the SXSW Festival. More details on the new album will follow soon.

VIDEO: Taken By Trees – “Dreams”

Premiering today on Gawker, the new Taken By TreesDreams” video follows Victoria Bergsman through insanely gorgeous Hawaiian landscapes. Director Amanda Marsalis provides the perfect visual pairing to the song that Baebel Music calls a “hammock simulator.” Indeed, it’s endlessly refreshing – equivalent to a cool drink of water, the unexpected breeze on hot summer day. “Dreams” is intimate without overwhelming. Just think, it’s only the beginning of what’s to come from TBT’s Other Worlds, out on October 2. “I know a place where we can go and you can get back on your feet boy….” Follow her. “I hardly remember my dreams these days. Sometimes, if I am lucky and I wake up very late, I find a thin film of another time or another life. I try desperately to capture this residue of a dream before it quickly fades. But the kind of dream I am referring to in this song is more like a sense of longing, a vision of a place where things are quiet, like floating in the ocean off of Hawaii.” -Victoria Bergsman of Taken By Trees

Jens Lekman Premieres Video for “Erica America,” Announces U.S. Tour with Taken By Trees

Jens Lekman premiered his new video for “Erica America” earlier this morning on SPIN. Marc Hogan writes, “His head freshly shaved, his attire unusually dark and drab, the Swedish singer and songwriter brings the exquisite heartbreak of ‘Erica America’ to life beside a dingy, turquoise-hued freight elevator in the song’s starkly arresting new video.” You can watch the Marcus Soderlund directed video above. The first single off of Jens’s I Know What Love Isn’t, you can purchase “Erica America” today from Amazon and iTunes.
