LISTEN // Gardens & Villa Share N.O. Joe “Domino” Remix, Playing Year-End LA Show At The Echoplex 12/13

Let’s roll the clock way back to SXSW 2014 (OK, only a few months back). Gardens & Villa met multi-platinum, Grammy nominated producer N.O. Joe [Scarface, Ice Cube, Brian McKnight, D'Angelo, Rick Ross, and Lil Wayne] after showing appreciation for the band’s set. The guys of Gardens & Villa grabbed late-night tacos with the renowned producer, became fast friends, and now Wondering Sound has premiered the a special remix of ‘Domino’, off the band’s album Dunes out earlier this year. The N.O. Joe remix of “Domino” brings the track to bumpin’ new heights including a verse from Houston rapper Spuf Don. We suggest listening to it right now above or here on our Soundcloud.

Also, on Saturday December 13, the band will end their year with a headlining show at The Echoplex in LA. Get tickets here.

eda27d3f-2d36-4cf0-8f46-203a7433c937

Today, we are proud to release TURNING, the concert film documentary of the critically acclaimed tour of Europe by Antony and the Johnsons and Charles Atlas during the fall of 2006. Described by Antony as “some of the most significant work of my career,” the documentary pairs Antony’s songs and Atlas’ unfurling video portraiture of 13 women to explore themes of identity, transcendence, and the revelation of a revolutionary feminine essence.

To celebrate the release of the TURNING documentary and concert on DVD+CD, during the month of December, Antony and the Johnsons and Charles Atlas’ “You Are My Sister” will be featured each night at 11:57pm as part of the Midnight Moment program, a massive digital art gallery on the electronic billboards of Times Square presented by the Times Square Advertising Coalition and curated by Times Square Arts. The film will count down the final three minutes of each day leading up to New Year’s Eve, reminding us that we are all connected as we reflect on the year past and look forward to the year to come.

TURNING is now available on DVD+CD and digitally in North America via Secretly Canadian and November 10th in the UK and Europe via Rough Trade. It includes a DVD of the documentary and CD of the complete audio recording of the TURNING concert, live at The Barbican in London in November 2006. Purchase now via Secretly Canadian/Rough Trade, iTunes, Amazon, and your local record store.

jag205.11298

Today, Stereogum has premiered “Blue Chicago Moon (Demo)” from the upcoming re-issue of Songs: Ohia’s masterpiece Didn’t It Rain. This expanded reissue presents Jason Molina’s home demos of the record, eight previously unreleased tracks, complete with a distant playground full of children chiming in the background for a few songs. The glorious juxtaposition of Molina’s songs’ desolation and the blissful playing of children is about as haunting as it gets. The expanded edition of Didn’t It Rain will see release via Secretly Canadian on December 2nd.

You can pre-order the special deluxe bundle including 2xLP, 2xCD, download codes, and a giant 27″ x 39″ Didn’t It Rain cinema style poster via SC Distribution. You can also pre-order the re-issue via iTunes, Amazon, and your local record store.
