Gardens & Villa is the gift that keeps on giving. Just when we thought we’d have to wait for the EP to hear anything new from Santa Barara’s loveliest gang, G&V throws us a bone. And believe me, it’s a pretty cool bone. As part of the 27th Santa Barbara International Film Festival, the boys are composing an original film score to F.W. Murnau’s silent film, “Faust.” G & V will perform the music live on February 4th at Lobero Theatre. The event is co-presented by the New Noise Music Foundation and falls under the festival’s new Cinesonic facet. You can get your tickets HERE.
In other awesome news, GARDENS & VILLA ARE PLAYING THIS YEAR’S COACHELLA. Please try to contain your excitement; it’s been extremely difficult to do so over here. You can see them on both weekends of the festival. Checkout the LINEUP.
Gardens & Villa have travelled far and wide this year, always with an Orange Blossom tucked in their pocket. Today we count down the top 5 “Orange Blossom” performances from around the world. This latest version (above via FILTER Magazine and OnTheRecord.tv) was filmed in Santa Monica just before the banded headed home to Santa Barbara for the holiday season. Gardens & Villa swung by Rock Island, IL (neither a rock nor an island) to record a Daytrotter session that is full of magic. The new live tracks include a cover of Little Dragon’s “Runabout” that will surprise you with all its various textures and creative instrumentation as well as an extra-synthy “Spacetime,” “Cruise Ship,” “Thorn Castles” with plenty of flue accents, and the now-classic “Orange Blossom.” The deluxe edition of their self-titled album is now available on iTunes. This version comes with new cover art, remixes from GAYNGS and Richard Swift as well as bonus track “Hailey” and videos for “Spacetime” and “Black Hills.” Cop it now.
Gardens & Villa stopped in to The Wild Honeypie while they were in NYC a few weeks ago to record a live session for the Honey, I’m Home series. They brought out new versions of “Orange Blossom” (above) and “Black Hills” jammy enough to spread on your morning toast. Don’t miss out on what are essentially the G&V Stax Sessions – gorgeously layered coco vibes taking over your headspace.
